Family Service Society of Yonkers has been delivering Guardianship services since
1997, when the New York State Supreme Court, County of Westchester, asked us to
serve as guardians for incapacitated persons. These are individuals who have been
deemed unable to make decisions in their own best interest concerning their personal
care and / or finances. They are generally elderly and at risk of abuse, neglect or
financial exploitation. We are the only not-for-profit agency in Westchester County
entrusted to handle these critical problems.
Individuals who are referred to us live in their own homes, adult residences, assisted
living environments, nursing homes, and hospitals. Family Service Society of Yonkers
[FSSY] provides the following services to individuals when appropriate and in
conjunction with an existing court order:
Assess the situation referred by the court
Engage the necessary home health services to maintain someone in the home.
This can include employment of home health aides, a 24-hour living aide,
attendance in a day care program, or any activity, which enhances the person’s
quality of living in the home.
Evaluate for capacity to drive and own an automobile.
Marshal the ward's assets to see that they are protected and used for the
benefit of the ward.
