Winter 2012
FSSY Home
Health Care Training Program:
FSSY
congratulates the recent graduates of our free Home Health Care Training
program. In December 2011, 16 individuals received New York State
Department of Health certification as a Personal Care Aide (PCA) and 8
newly-certified PCAs continued in the more advanced training and
received their NYS DOH certification as a Home Health Aide (HHA). We
look forward to their joining the FSSY staff.
Kinship Support Program:
The New
York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS) has renewed
the major grant for the Kinship Support Program (KSP). Under this
grant, FSSY has expanded the services it offers to relative caregivers.
We now provide case management, legal services (especially for
custody-related issues), family mediation, individual and family
counseling; and training in parenting skills to strengthen the family
unit. The KSP continues to provide additional services, including the
twice-monthly meetings of the Relative Caregiver Support Group.
The
Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation has awarded FSSY renewed funding for
three years for the Kinship Support Program.
FSSY has
received a grant from the MAXIMUS Foundation to help fund the Kinship
Support Program.
The
Elias Foundation has renewed funding for the GrandPower Advocacy Project
which provides training and legislative outreach to improve benefits for
kinship families.
Case
Management for the City of Yonkers:
The City
of Yonkers has renewed the contracts for FSSY to provide case management
for residents of the Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority and Yonkers
Section 8 Housing.
Homestead Program:
The U.
S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the City of Yonkers
have renewed funding for the FSSY Homestead Program which provides
permanent supportive housing for physically disabled homeless
individuals.
Access to Home Program:
Through
a grant from the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corporation’s Access
to Home program, FSSY continues to provide accessibility-related
modifications to the homes of disabled and low-income elderly residents
of Westchester County.
